Bitwise Asset Management opened a new chapter for altcoin (alternate coin) access on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 in the form of Bitwise Spot NEAR ETF.
The firm listed the Bitwise NEAR ETF under ticker NRR on NYSE Arca, creating the first U.S. spot exchange-traded product that holds actual NEAR tokens.
Investors can now gain direct exposure through ordinary brokerage accounts while the fund stakes its holdings for additional yield.
What Makes the Bitwise Spot NEAR ETF Different from Earlier Crypto Funds?
Unlike futures-based products, NRR buys and holds the underlying NEAR tokens.
Coinbase Custody safeguards the assets, and BNY Mellon handles cash and administration.
The fund charges a 0.75% annual management fee paid in NEAR.
Bitwise plans to stake 100% of the portfolio through its institutional team.
Network staking rewards currently average around 5%.
Shareholders receive roughly 67% of those rewards as increases in net asset value; the remaining 33% covers staking expenses shared among the staking agent, custodian, and Bitwise.
Rewards are not guaranteed and can fluctuate, while staking also carries potential slashing risk.

How Did the Bitwise Spot NEAR ETF Perform on Its First Trading Day?
Demand arrived quickly. NRR attracted approximately $35.5 million in net inflows on debut, nearly matching its early assets under management (AUM) figure, while trading volume reached $15.1 million.
Relative to NEAR’s market size, the opening session ranked among the stronger first-day showings for recent single-asset crypto ETFs.
The launch expands Bitwise’s existing U.S. lineup that already includes Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, and Hyperliquid products.
It also builds on the firm’s European staking ETP for NEAR.

Why Is Bitwise Positioning NEAR Around AI and the Agentic Economy?
Bitwise frames NEAR as core infrastructure for an emerging artificial intelligence (AI)-powered economy.
CEO Hunter Horsley highlighted the shift toward AI agents that act on users’ behalf, coordinate with one another, and settle transactions.
The protocol’s speed and design, the firm argues, suit this agentic commerce model that some projections value in the trillions by 2030.
NEAR itself had already rallied sharply before the listing, nearly tripling from August lows near $1.60 to the $5 range around launch.
The ETF gives traditional investors a regulated vehicle to participate in that narrative without managing wallets or private keys.

What Risks Should Investors Watch with the Bitwise Spot NEAR ETF?
Staking 100% of holdings leaves no unstaked reserve for redemptions at the outset, which could affect liquidity during large outflows.
Yield remains variable, and the 0.75% fee compounds over time.
Broader crypto market volatility and regulatory shifts can still move the underlying token independently of the fund’s structure.
Despite those caveats, the product marks a clear step forward.
U.S. investors now hold a straightforward path to both price exposure and staking rewards on NEAR through a familiar ETF wrapper.
