BTC treasury companies sit in the green again. Glassnode data shows these public firms hold their Bitcoin at an average cost basis near $80,000, and the price has closed above that level every day since September 18. Yet, fresh buying remains minimal even while unrealised gains return.

This setup creates an interesting dynamic. Profitable positions can start a feedback loop: companies buy more Bitcoin, the purchases lift the price, higher prices boost their stock valuations, and stronger shares then fund additional purchases. As of this publication, that loop has not fully engaged.

What Are BTC Treasury Companies?

BTC treasury companies are publicly listed firms that treat Bitcoin as a primary reserve asset on their balance sheets.

Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) dominates the group with roughly 848,500 BTC. Other notable holders include Metaplanet, MARA Holdings, Strive, and Twenty One Capital.

Together, these entities control more than 1.2 million BTC, equal to about 6% of the total supply.

Why Does the $80K Cost Basis Matter?

The aggregate cost basis acts as both a psychological and technical marker.

When price sits below it, many of these firms carry unrealised losses and often slow or pause accumulation.

Once price holds above the line, the pressure to sell eases and the incentive to add more coins grows.

Glassnode estimates the current group average near $80,200. Price reclaimed that zone in mid-September and has stayed there.

Are BTC Treasury Companies Buying Right Now?

Net purchases remain light. The Glassnode chart shows only small green bars in recent weeks, a sharp contrast to the heavy accumulation periods of 2024 and 2025.

Companies appear content to hold rather than aggressively expand their stacks while Bitcoin trades just above their break-even.

What Could Trigger More Buying From BTC Treasury Companies?

Several factors could restart meaningful inflows. A sustained daily close above nearby resistance near $87,000 would strengthen the profit cushion.

Continued or accelerating spot ETF inflows would add external demand.

Equity markets that reward higher Bitcoin holdings with stronger share prices would also encourage management teams to raise capital and buy more.

Looking ahead, any of these catalysts could flip the current caution into active accumulation.

How Do these Firms Affect Bitcoin Price?

These firms influence price mainly through steady demand and reduced sell pressure.

Their large holdings remove coins from circulation for long periods.

When they buy, they can amplify upward moves; when they pause, the market loses one source of consistent bid support.

The self-reinforcing loop mentioned earlier remains the most powerful potential impact if buying resumes in size.

For now, the picture stays mixed. BTC treasury companies enjoy paper profits after weeks of closes above $80,000, yet they have not returned to the aggressive buying that defined earlier cycles.

The next decisive move in price will likely determine whether that restraint continues or finally breaks.
