Billionaire collector Adam Weitsman stepped in over the weekend of October 9 to 11, 2026 and purchased 117 Pudgy Penguins on-chain.
He did it openly to back the collection while the community faced uncertainty.
In his own words, he wanted “to support one of my favourite collections during a difficult time” and “spread confidence for the community I have grown to love.”
He added that the Huddle will stay strong and simply told everyone to “Return to Pudgy Penguins.”
Why do es this matter? The timing matters because the non-fungible token (NFT) market has plunged deeply in volume over the course of 2026.
Just days earlier, Igloo Inc., the parent company behind Pudgy Penguins, announced it would wind down its consumer-focused Ethereum Layer 2, Abstract. The chain will shut on December 15, 2026.

Users must bridge assets out before then or risk losing access. Igloo CEO Luca Netz explained that the company had poured tens of millions of dollars into Abstract over roughly 18 months.
Yet, the company still faced stagnant growth, thin liquidity, and limited institutional interest.
Instead of launching a token, the team chose to redirect every resource toward Pudgy Penguins, its NFTs, and the PENGU token.
Who Is Adam Weitsman and Why Does He Collect Pudgy Penguins?
Weitsman built his fortune as CEO of Upstate Shredding – Weitsman Recycling, one of the largest privately held scrap-metal processors on the U.S. East Coast. Estimates place his net worth between $1.2 and $1.5 billion.
Beyond business, he has become one of the most consistent blue-chip NFT collectors.
He previously acquired large packs of Otherdeeds, Mega Kodas, Meebits, and even a rare left-facing Pudgy Penguin. He has said he buys what he loves and never sells.
This latest 117-piece buy lifts his total Pudgy Penguins holdings to around 167 across two wallets.

What Triggered the Abstract L2 Shutdown by Igloo?
Abstract launched with strong branding partnerships and onboarded more than 400,000 users.
Still, fee revenue never covered operating costs. Netz made clear that continuing to fund the chain would have drained resources from the core Pudgy Penguins business.
The decision ends an 18-month experiment and returns full focus to the original brand.

How Has the Pudgy Penguins Market Reacted?
Floor price climbed to roughly 2.74 ETH, about $6,900, and posted a 16.7% gain in 24 hours after the purchase news.
The move shows that large, public support from a known collector can still shift sentiment even when a related project is closing.

What Does This Mean for the Future of Pudgy Penguins?
Igloo’s full attention now sits on the penguins themselves, the physical toys, the digital collectibles, and PENGU.
Weitsman’s open accumulation adds a high-profile vote of confidence at a moment when the community needed one.
Whether the floor holds or the brand expands further will depend on execution in the months ahead, yet the immediate signal is clear: long-term believers remain active.
In short, a scrap-metal billionaire just bought 117 Pudgy Penguins on-chain while the project’s parent company shuttered its Layer 2.
The Huddle, for now, has one more high-profile member standing with it.
